School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents MFA Computer Art Open Studios 2010, bringing together multidisciplinary projects from our graduating students. The event will be open to the public from April 30 through May 1 at the MFA Computer Art Studio, 132 West 21st Street, between 6th and 7th Aves., 7th floor, New York City.

The creative work encompasses a wide range of media including video, animation, audio, interactive installations and physical computing. “As digital art evolves, the line between it and contemporary art will disappear. We see it simply as art, using digital techniques to enable creativity.” states department chair Bruce Wands. One such project is Rebecca Adorno-Davila’s installation focusing on human relations and social context by means of sound structures and interactivity. Combining the physical and digital, Hanna Alvgren creates an interactive multimedia installation where visitors will move between simple structure and organic-like complexity. Anya Christian-Betancourt has made an interactive video/sound installation that explores the concept of female seduction. By constructing a robotic marionette, Valerie Guinn exposes the vulnerability of the human body and mimics the natural juxtaposition of the virtual and physical world. Anis Haron’s work examines the applications and boundaries of indeterminately produced audio in contemporary sound-based performance and installation art. Junyeob Kim explores the possibilities of different types of relationships between technology and human beings. Displaying artworks in both digital and non-digital formats, David Mikolajczyk enhances the viewer’s experience and interaction with his multidimensional creations. In the form of an interactive installation, Hafiz Wan Rosli Muhammad questions the meaning of identity and its significance to our life in the cyber era. Mark Ramos constructs an aura visualizer by collecting four types of biological meta-data through visualizations displayed in conjunction with a wearable interface.

The MFA Computer Art Studio is shared among students interested in building interactive, multidisciplinary and installation art projects. The space includes a workshop/classroom for students to construct their work.
